We went through a phase a while back where Dylan had a big boy bike, but it was a garage sale find and didn't last too long before the whole pedal mechanism broke. He happily went back to his old trike and didn't have any interest in a big bike for a while. Then, about a month ago, he decided bikes were pretty neat and decided he wanted one. We were trying to hold off until we moved so that we wouldn't have one more thing to haul across the country. In the mean time, he continued to ride his trike and found that he loved going fast and then stopping really fast. Since he holds his feet in the same position every time he stops, it completely wore one side of the wheel down (see the picture below). We finally caved in and bought him a bike which we should have done long ago before he ruined the trike. It is a 16" bike and he does so great on it. He even got a new helmet and a bell which makes it that much cooler (and noisier on our walks). He loved bike shopping at Academy Sports - trying all of the bikes out by cruising up and down the isles. He really loved one with a speedometer and hand brakes, but I couldn't justify the extra 30 bucks. So, the basic model it is!
Now Easton has inherited the trike, but I'm looking into ordering a new wheel since it seems to get stuck on the flat spot as we push him around. We've definitely got our money's worth out of this toy!
