Ouray, CO

In August, we were lucky to have my parents come visit us. We took the chance to finally check out some of the neat things around us. We had been devoting our weekends to updating Tim's dental practice, and it was definitely time for a break.

We asked lots of people what we needed to see first, and Ouray was always top of the list. It is a beautiful little town which is nicknamed "Switzerland of America". It really was beautiful. Sorry that I don't really have picture of the town to share. First thing we did when we got there was hike to Box Cañon Falls.

The boys loved watching the squirrels...or chipmunks....whatever these are. They were at the bottom of the trail where we started our hike.

You could hear and feel the power of the water. Can you tell the boys were a little overwhelmed?

Cute Gavin got to take a ride on Dad's back. This sounded like a great idea, but it about gave me a heart attack in a few spots along the hike. There is a portion of the hike where the trail is cut out of the cliffs, and you have to duck since the rock ledge is so low. This was a little tough with Big Gavin on Tim's back. To get through, he kind of leaned his upper body out over the fence - which meant Gavin was leaning out over the fence too. It still makes me sick thinking back on it, but we all made it safely. On the way back out, Gavin got to walk so that he didn't have to dangle over a cliff. I felt much better!!

After the hike, we took a short walk through Ouray. It was hot and the kids were not in the mood for a fun stroll. We finished off with some icecream and then headed home. Easton was so sweet to share his with Gavin.
